Role: Laboratory TechnicianLocation: Edinburgh East (Seafield – Scientific Services)Working Hours: 08:30 – 17:00 (36 hours per week) – typical days off are Thursday and FridayPay Rate: £16.07 per hourDuration: Temporary, ongoingStart Date: ASAP About the Opportunity This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or develop a career in laboratory science, particularly within microbiology. You’ll gain hands-on experience working in a professional lab environment, supporting essential testing processes that contribute to public health and safety. Working as part of a collaborative microbiology team, you’ll play a key role in ensuring samples are prepared, processed, and recorded accurately while maintaining high laboratory standards. Key Responsibilities In this varied and practical role, your duties will include:Preparing food and water samples for microbiological testingAccurately recording data and maintaining laboratory recordsOrganising and transferring samples to appropriate storage areasMonitoring and maintaining stock levels (glassware, chemicals, consumables)Cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, benches, and workspacesEnsuring safe disposal of samples in line with proceduresSupporting the wider team to meet testing deadlines and service targetsAssisting with general laboratory operations and additional tasks as requiredProviding occasional delivery/collection support for samples if needed What We’re Looking For We’re more interested in your attitude and approach than extensive experience.
