About The Role
Working Hours: Shift working on a night rota – four nights on, four nights off (Annualised Hours)
Contract Type: Full‑Time, Permanent
Additional Payments: Night Rate Plus
Closing Date: 10 January 2024
Requirements: You must hold a full, valid driving licence at all times.
The Markets Service has an opportunity for an experienced Manager to join the New Smithfield Market team at Whitworth Street East, Openshaw, Manchester (M11 2WJ). The Market is a 35‑acre wholesale fruit and vegetable site with around 80 businesses and over 500 staff working throughout the night and early morning.
As Manager you will oversee the site from 10:00 pm to 8:30 am, supporting overall site operations and ensuring high‑quality tenant and customer focused services.
You will handle queries, manage tenant occupancy, conduct unit inspections, and ensure that the site and its tenants meet all legislative requirements.
Hours will run on a permanent four “on, four off” rota.
About the Candidate
The successful candidate will have:
- Experience of night and/or shift working
- Experience in market management or the retail sector
- Worked in a fast‑paced environment
- Good written and oral communication skills, required for liaising with tenants, contractors and visitors
