Database Platform Engineer | Elite Buy-Side Firm | London

Company: Tempest Vane Partners
Apply for the Database Platform Engineer | Elite Buy-Side Firm | London
Location: Greater London
Job Description:

Tempest Vane Partners are working with a top-tier, globally recognised investment firm undergoing a major transformation of its data and infrastructure platforms. This is a rare opportunity to join a high-calibre engineering group building a next-generation, Kubernetes-native Database-as-a-Service platform from the ground up.

This is not a traditional DBA role. This is platform engineering at its most sophisticated — combining distributed systems, cloud-native infrastructure, and modern data technologies to redefine how databases are provisioned, managed, and scaled across the organisation.

The Opportunity

You’ll play a key role in designing and delivering a fully automated, self-service database platform, enabling engineering teams to provision and operate data services seamlessly via declarative workflows.

Working at the intersection of Kubernetes, data engineering, and platform architecture, you’ll help eliminate manual processes and build resilient, scalable systems that power critical trading and analytics workloads.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Architect and operate stateful database workloads on Kubernetes
  • Develop custom operators and controllers for automated provisioning and lifecycle management
  • Build and enhance high-availability, self-healing database systems
  • Implement GitOps-driven workflows and infrastructure-as-code practices
  • Deliver observability and monitoring frameworks for mission-critical services
  • Contribute to data platform capabilities, including lakehouse and query federation technologies
  • Drive migration initiatives from legacy environments into a modern, unified platform

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience working with distributed systems and modern database technologies
  • Hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, particularly around stateful workloads
  • Proficiency in Python or Go, with a focus on automation and tooling
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD pipelines
  • A platform mindset — you think in terms of systems, scalability, and automation, not manual processes
  • Experience building or working with Kubernetes operators
  • Exposure to analytical and high-performance data systems
  • Familiarity with modern data platform concepts (lakehouse, query engines, etc.)
  • Background in high-performance or low-latency environments

Why Apply?

  • Work in a high-impact, engineering-led environment with exceptional talent density
  • Build cutting-edge infrastructure used across a global organisation
  • Significant ownership and influence over platform direction
  • Competitive compensation aligned with top buy‑side firms

If you’re interested in building best-in‑class data platforms at scale, apply directly or reach out for a confidential discussion.
