VIQU have partnered with a well‑established financial services organisation undergoing a major cloud transformation, currently moving their SQL Server estate into Azure. This is a brand‑new role, giving you the opportunity to take real ownership as the dedicated DBA leading this migration journey.

This position is ideal for a mid‑level DBA who enjoys hands‑on technical work and wants to play a key role in shaping a modern, cloud‑first database environment.

The Role

You’ll be responsible for managing a sizeable estate of ~60 production databases, ensuring performance, stability, and optimisation across the platform. A major focus will be working closely with development teams to refactor queries, improve performance, and support best practices across SQL and Azure.

You’ll also play a key role in the ongoing migration to Azure, gaining exposure to cloud technologies while driving improvements in database performance and scalability.

Key Responsibilities

  • SQL Server administration across production and non‑production environments
  • Performance tuning, optimisation, and query refactoring
  • Writing efficient T‑SQL and analysing execution plans
  • Supporting and collaborating with developers to improve database performance
  • Contributing to Azure migration and cloud optimisation initiatives
  • Managing backups, security, and database maintenance

Key Requirements

  • 3‑5 years’ experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar
  • Strong T‑SQL skills and experience optimising queries
  • Proven experience in performance tuning and database optimisation
  • Ability to work closely with development teams
  • Exposure to Azure SQL or cloud environments (desirable)
  • Experience working with multiple databases in a production environment

Nice to Have

  • Experience in financial services or pensions
  • Exposure to database monitoring tools (e.g. Redgate, SolarWinds)
  • Understanding of HA/DR concepts
