Powering the Net-Zero Transition
Are you an experienced Plant Engineer looking to move away from conventional processes and into the future of low‑carbon energy? Join a Tier 1 District Energy Specialist currently investing over £1bn into innovative heat network projects. We are seeking a technically‑minded Breakdown Engineer to maintain and optimize large‑scale energy centres (1MW+) across London and the South. This is a chance to join a high‑growth, “intelligence‑led” consultancy that values free‑thinking and technical autonomy.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Technical Manager, you will be the frontline for reliability across a diverse range of heat networks—from major regeneration projects in London to city‑wide systems in Wales. This is a varied, mobile role focusing on mechanical PPMs, reactive fault‑finding, and plant remediation. You won’t just be fixing parts; you’ll be reviewing root causes and helping to evolve the efficiency of the UK’s energy infrastructure.
Technical Essentials
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Gas or Plumbing (Commercial Gas tickets are highly desirable; the company will support those willing to work towards them).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years’ experience in commercial plant rooms (>1MW), servicing pumps, actuators, plate heat exchangers, and pressurisation units.
- Compliance & Safety: Expert knowledge of safe isolation (mechanical/electrical) and the ability to interpret P&IDs and mechanical schematics.
- Key Skills: Water sampling, dosing, and basic fault‑finding on HIU models.
- Mobility: Full UK Driving License (valid for 12+ months) and a willingness to participate in a 1-in-4 on‑call rota.
The Package
- Base Salary: £32,500 – £42,500 (DOE).
- Bonus: Performance‑related discretionary bonus.
- Time Off: 25 days holiday + Bank Holidays (Option to buy/sell 5 days).
- Benefits: Private healthcare, Electric Car lease scheme, Cycle to Work, and comprehensive L&D opportunities.
- Tools: Company vehicle/fuel card, laptop, tablet, and mobile phone.
- Culture: A supportive, “Armed Forces friendly” employer with a focus on wellbeing and flexible working environments.
