About us

King’s Arts & Humanities is the home of eleven departments – ranging from traditional disciplines such as Philosophy, Classics, Theology, English, History, Languages and Music, to emerging fields such as Digital Humanities, Film, Interdisciplinary Liberal Arts, and Culture, Media and Creative Industries. It is one of the largest faculties of its kind in the UK, teaching over 5,000 students and 600 PhD researchers through its Doctoral School.

Role Summary

The Senior Impact and Knowledge Exchange Manager will lead the development, coordination and delivery of research impact activities within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. The role works closely with the Pro‑Vice Dean (Impact & Knowledge Exchange) and the Impact Manager for Arts & Humanities, and with colleagues in the Research and External Engagement teams. The manager will provide input into the faculty’s impact strategy and ensure its implementation through the following activities:

  • Providing expert support and advice for academic staff and faculty‑based research centres in planning their impact activities at all stages of a research project’s trajectory.
  • Leading the development and support of impact case studies for REF and contributing to other HEI assessments involving impact (e.g. KEF).
  • Working with academic and staff colleagues within Arts & Humanities and the wider College to enable strategic collaborations and knowledge‑sharing for greater impact possibilities.
  • Using their understanding of knowledge exchange activities, funding mechanisms and research capabilities across the faculty to enable collaborations between academics and industry; supporting scoping of projects, developing clear processes, solving practical problems, connecting the right people and driving projects to deliver impactful results.

To lead strategic initiatives to maintain and enhance the impact culture of the faculty.

This is a full‑time position (35 hours per week) on an indefinite contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, candidates should have the following skills and experience:

Essential Criteria

  1. Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  2. Excellent understanding of and experience working in the UK HEI landscape in an impact capacity, ideally with previous experience supporting REF Impact Case Studies.
  3. Experience supporting relationships between HEIs and non‑HEIs.
  4. Experience in project management.
  5. Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; able to present and communicate ideas to a range of stakeholders, including senior members of academic staff.
  6. Proficient IT skills, including MS Office suite and ideally web content management systems.
  7. Ability to work flexibly and independently and manage a diverse workload.
  8. Strong teamwork skills and experience.

Desirable Criteria

  1. Good knowledge of methodologies for developing and maximising research impact.
  2. Experience with KEF (Knowledge Exchange Framework, UK).
  3. Line management experience.
