Overview

Do you want to play a hands‑on role in shaping how development comes forward across Bridgend County Borough, helping to ensure new schemes are delivered safely, efficiently and with the right transport infrastructure in place?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and capable professional to join the Highways Development Control team at Bridgend County Borough Council, within the Planning and Development Services Group. This is a key role within a well‑established and supportive team that sits at the centre of the planning process and works closely with planners, developers and engineers to manage the transport impacts of development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional highway and transportation advice on a wide range of planning applications, from smaller developments through to more complex schemes.
  • Assess transport implications, carry out site visits, engage with applicants and agents, and prepare clear, proportionate and defensible responses to the Local Planning Authority.
  • Advise on appropriate mitigation, support Section 106 discussions, and contribute to the delivery of new or improved transport infrastructure where required.
  • Work closely with colleagues across highways and planning, external consultants, developers and elected members.
  • Take responsibility for your own caseload and contribute positively to the wider work of the team.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience in highways, transport or planning. Previous direct HDC experience is welcomed but not essential.
  • Exposure to development‑related transport or highway work and a readiness to build expertise in this area.
  • Sound judgement, clear communication and a practical, solution‑focused approach.
  • A valid driving licence is required.
