Role Description
This is an on-site, part-time role for an Assistant Accountant based in South East London. The Assistant Accountant will handle a variety of tasks such as processing financial transactions, preparing financial reports, managing accounts payable and receivable, assisting with payroll activities, and ensuring compliance with tax and VAT regulations. They will support financial forecasting and budgeting, maintain accurate bookkeeping records, and collaborate with the team on client account management.
Key Responsibilities
- Bookkeeping and transaction processing
- Bank and balance sheet reconciliations
- VAT returns (Standard, FRS, Cash Accounting) and MTD support
- Journals, accruals, prepayments, and month‑end assistance
- Management accounts support
- Payroll and CIS support (where applicable)
- Attention to detail, analytical skills, and a strong aptitude for numbers
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Client liaison and ad hoc support to senior accountants
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years’ UK bookkeeping/assistant accountant experience
- Strong double‑entry knowledge
- VAT experience
- Excel proficiency
- Experience with cloud accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, or Capium)
Desirable
- AAT Level 3/4 or studying towards ACCA/ACA/CIMA
- Practice experience, payroll or CIS exposure
