Job Description:

We are looking to appoint two new colleagues to the Geriatric Medicine Department at University Hospitals Dorset, comprising Poole Hospital, Bournemouth Hospital and Christchurch Hospital.

This is a permanent post for two full‑time Consultant Geriatricians, though applicants wishing to work flexibly or less than full‑time will be considered.

The main purpose of the post is to support the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement. A variety of roles are available depending upon the individual’s interests, with examples including interface and community geriatrics, orthogeriatrics and surgical liaison, and movement disorders.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will support the delivery of high‑quality care, act as a local leader, and contribute to service development and continuous improvement. The role may involve participation in an out‑of‑hours rota, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and will be remunerated in accordance with NHS Medical and Dental Terms and Conditions of Service.

Relocation

The service is expected to move during Summer 2026 to the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site. Upon relocation the role will be based there; travel between the postholder’s home and the new work base will be classified as a commute.

Qualifications

  • Completed specialist training in Geriatrics
  • Evidence of specialist training certificate for Geriatric Medicine
  • Eligibility or valid/relevant GMC registration

Desirable

Research, higher degree and overseas experience are not essential but will be regarded favourably.
