Bowel Cancer Screening Specialist Practitioner (Royal Liverpool Hospital) Band 6 Permanent. 37.5 Hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Support the BCSP by coordinating care from the screening centre to address patient needs arising as a consequence of the screening programme.
- Collaborate with the Programme Hub and the team to provide care from screening to onward referral, including assessment for endoscopic procedures and delivery of results.
- Make clinically informed decisions to manage patients along the screening pathway and follow them up afterwards.
- Provide advice, information and support for patients making direct contact with the screening centre.
- Deliver psychological support when breaking bad news and manage symptom management on diagnosis and treatment.
- Ensure timely access to screening colonoscopy or alternative diagnostic intervention and seamless transition to agreed pathways in primary, secondary, tertiary or outpatient care settings.
- Establish effective links with local colorectal cancer multi‑disciplinary teams and local Lynch multi‑disciplinary teams for patient triage, monitoring and treatment plans.
- Populate and maintain the BCSP local database and participate in ongoing data collection, quality assurance, service feedback and audit, including 30‑day follow‑up of patients.
- Collect, collate, evaluate and report information, maintaining accurate patient records.
- Collaborate with other professionals and organisations to ensure patient needs are met, especially in relation to referrals to local MDTs.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RGN) with the NMC.
- Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and travel between centres as required.
- Desirable: Previous endoscopic, gastroenterology or bowel cancer screening experience.
