What are T Levels?

T Levels are new courses starting September 2020, equivalent to three A levels. They combine classroom learning with at least 45 days of industry placement and provide knowledge for skilled employment, further study, or a higher apprenticeship.

The Role

The T Level Examiner role is a contract position that allows you to earn additional income alongside full‑time commitments. Examiners mark candidate responses using a pre‑defined mark scheme and the Code of Practice. Assessments may be marked onscreen with ePEN (from home) or with paper scripts. A high level of contemporary subject knowledge is required. National travel may be required for training and standardisation.

  • Core Paper 1: Digital Analysis, Legislation and Emerging Issues
  • Core Paper 2: The Business Environment and Employer Set Project

Responsibilities

  • Mark accurately and consistently to maintain overall standards.
  • Submit samples to the Team Leader at designated times.
  • Adhere to marking milestones.
  • Complete all required administration.
  • Attend standardisation meetings.
  • Regularly mark scripts during the Summer Series and/or Autumn Series.

Qualifications

Essential

You will have a degree or equivalent work‑based qualification such as Level 5/6/7 NVQ in computing, computer science or software development, or a membership of a relevant professional body such as BCS or the Chartered Institute for IT.

Be fully conversant with the languages in the specification (e.g., Python or C based languages such as C, C#, C++, Java).

Desirable

You will be a qualified teacher or hold an equivalent teaching qualification such as Cert Ed, C&G 7404, PTTLLS, CTLLS, DTLLS or an Assessor/Verifier award.

Experience Required

You will hold a minimum of one year’s teaching and assessment experience within the last eight years, or equivalent in computing or software development at Level 3.

OR

You will have recent occupational experience as a Computer Programmer, Software Developer, Software Engineer, or Senior Software Developer.

Competencies Required

  • Work well under pressure.
  • Meet deadlines.
  • Have a high level of subject knowledge to apply the mark scheme.
