Commissioning & Protection Engineer – Blackburn

Morson are proud to be working in partnership with Electricity North West, who own, operate, and maintain the electricity distribution network for over 5 million people across the region. It’s a vital role in keeping homes, businesses, and communities connected — and they’re now looking for an experienced Commissioning & Protection Engineer to join their Transmission team.
The Opportunity
This is a senior engineering development role, offering the chance to work at the forefront of high-voltage protection and control systems. Based at Blackburn Depot, you’ll be responsible for commissioning, maintaining, and fault finding across a wide range of equipment up to 132kV, including 6.6/11kV and 33kV systems.
You’ll lead on delivering the 33kV and 132kV protection maintenance programme, ensuring all work meets strict safety and quality standards. This is a hands-on engineering role with a real impact on the reliability of the region’s electricity network.

What we’re looking for
- HNC or higher in Electrical Engineering (degree preferred)
- Significant experience with protection & control systems at 33kV and 132kV
- Proven commissioning experience on major projects at 33kV and/or 132kV
- Strong project management and problem-solving skills
- Full UK driving licence (essential)
- Chartered status and SAP authorisation (desirable)
