Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the triad to understand business challenges, identify impactful opportunities, and craft a roadmap for the team.
  • Work with your team to design technical solutions.
  • Provide feedback on code reviews, architecture documents, and other aspects to help team members make better technical decisions.
  • Act as a contributor to the project through extensive code reviews or shipping code.
  • Hold regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports to support their career growth and development goals.
  • Participate in hiring to grow the engineering team at Clio.
  • Review code from your team or other Clio developers and consult on technology or patterns.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated success in people leadership in software development, particularly with large‑scale SaaS products.
  • A strong hands‑on background in software development.
  • Diverse knowledge base allowing the team to solve complex technical problems.
  • Ability to describe successful projects worked on and lessons learned from failed projects.
  • Proven ability to hire the best and brightest engineers in a fast‑paced market, and to coach, develop, and retain engineering talent.
  • Strong opinions that are weakly held, fostering the same attitude in others.
  • Commitment to honest, actionable feedback and encouraging team reciprocity.
  • Roadmap design skills with adaptability to a constantly changing world.
  • Growth mindset regarding process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.

Bonus Points

  • A philosophy on what makes software development teams truly great.
  • Deep expertise in .NET CLR internals or advanced SQL Server performance tuning.
  • Experience with monoliths, distributed systems, microservices and understanding of their trade‑offs.

Salary

The expected salary range for this role is £104,000 to £130,000 to £156,000 GBP. There are separate salary bands for other regions based on local currency. Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed and to allow room for growth.
