About The Role
We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented Cyber Security Engineer to join our growing IT team within a Group services environment. This is a hands‑on role where you will play a key part in protecting the organisation’s systems, data, and infrastructure from evolving cyber threats. You will work closely with infrastructure, development, and business teams to ensure security is embedded across all areas of the organisation while maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a combination of technical expertise and industry certifications. A degree in Cyber Security, Computer Science, or a related field is desirable, along with relevant professional certifications such as CompTIA Security+, SSCP, SC‑200, SC‑300, or AZ‑500. Experience with Privileged Access Management, email security platforms, and supporting compliance frameworks like Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus is highly advantageous. Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 security, Microsoft Entra ID, and familiarity with cyber security frameworks and risk management principles are essential for success in this role.
Responsibilities
- Monitor, detect, and respond to cyber threats using security tools including SIEM, EDR, and threat intelligence platforms.
- Analyse logs and security events to identify risks, unusual activity, and potential breaches.
- Investigate incidents such as phishing, malware, and unauthorised access, coordinating response activities.
- Maintain and update the cyber security risk register to track vulnerabilities and mitigation measures.
- Advise on secure configuration and system hardening across infrastructure and cloud environments.
- Review firewall rules, access controls, and integrations to ensure least‑privilege access principles are upheld.
- Support compliance with regulatory requirements such as FCA, GDPR, and internal policies.
- Develop and maintain cyber security policies aligned with industry best practices.
- Deliver internal security awareness initiatives, including phishing simulations and training sessions.
- Administer identity and access controls within Microsoft Entra ID, including MFA, Conditional Access, and PIM.
- Manage endpoint security and application control technologies to safeguard organisational assets.
- Support the organisation’s Cyber Essentials and Cyber Essentials Plus certification efforts.
- Assist with business continuity and disaster recovery planning to ensure operational resilience.
