Job Description:

Morson Vital are recruiting a Safety Assurance Engineer to support a major ETCS On‑Board retrofit programme with a leading engineering organisation. This is a key technical role within a specialist safety team, supporting UK‑specific assurance activities across design, testing, approvals and delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and manage essential safety documentation, including: Safety Management Plans, System Definitions, Hazard Records, GASC, SASC, IHA, FMECA
  • Support approval processes to obtain APIS for each train class
  • Work directly with the Safety Assurance Manager, AsBo, ISA and technical authorities
  • Support the ETCS On‑Board team during design, approval, testing and commissioning phases
  • Contribute to the Technical File and documentation required for track testing and commissioning

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Experience with train‑carried systems, especially ETCS, CBTC, or in‑cab signalling systems
  • Background in safety assurance and certification processes
  • Knowledge of CSM‑RA and CENELEC railway safety standards
  • Skilled in preparing safety plans, hazard records, FMECA, IHA and related documentation
  • Experience working with AsBo and ISA assessment bodies
  • Strong communicator at all organisational levels
  • Customer‑focused with an understanding of political and industry sensitivities within rail
  • Self‑motivated, dependable, and able to work independently

Desirable Experience

  • Broader knowledge of railway systems and technologies
  • Experience with APIS and/or RIS‑2700‑RST processes
  • Background working in major subcontract environments
