Mechanical & Manufacturing Design Engineer

Location: Hereford

Salary: £40,000 – £50,000

Hours: Full-time, Permanent

The Company

Our client is an innovative engineering and technology business operating at the forefront of product development and manufacturing. Due to continued growth within their R&D function, they are seeking a Mechanical & Manufacturing Design Engineer to support the development and integration of new and existing product lines.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Research & Development, this is a key position focused on the design, development and implementation of mechanical and manufacturing solutions.

You will be responsible for translating concepts into practical, production-ready designs, supporting system integration, and ensuring manufacturing processes are efficient, compliant and cost-effective.

This role offers a blend of design, analysis and project work within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems, components and product enclosures
  • Translate concepts and proposals into practical design and manufacturing solutions
  • Develop and implement efficient manufacturing processes for new and existing products
  • Carry out design calculations and support equipment selection to meet project requirements
  • Select appropriate materials based on performance, environmental and application requirements
  • Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation and standards (e.g. CE/UKCA)
  • Support system integration across projects and product platforms
  • Collaborate with internal teams, suppliers and external partners to deliver projects
  • Maintain documentation in line with ISO9001 standards
  • Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing efficiency and product performance

The Person

  • Degree, HND or HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (with relevant experience)
  • Strong experience in mechanical design and manufacturing environments
  • Proficient in CAD software, ideally SolidWorks
  • Experience with manufacturing technologies (additive and/or subtractive)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Additional Requirements

  • Must be eligible for Security Clearance (SC)
  • UK National required
