The Role

As a Proposals Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our sales activity by providing technical expertise, preparing accurate and competitive quotations, and acting as a vital link between customers, the external sales team and internal departments.

This is a customer‑facing, technically focused role where attention to detail, commercial awareness, and strong communication skills are essential. This role is office-based with hybrid working available. This role will initially require 3 days or more in the office for onboarding and training purposes and will be reviewed following probation. The working hours are 37.5 hours per week between 08:30 – 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 – 14:30 Friday.

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Technical Quotation Preparation: Prepare technical quotations, datasheets, letters and associated documentation for customer and sales enquiries.
  • Product Selection & Sizing: Select, size and specify standard and bespoke filtration products to meet customer requirements.
  • Costing & Bid Support: Investigate costs and prepare cost sheets for modified or bespoke products, from initial design through to final bid submission.
  • Technical Enquiries: Respond to general and technical enquiries, including competitor cross‑referencing, estimating and product sizing.
  • Customer & Sales Support: Advise customers on product choice, introduce new products and support the External Sales Team with technical solutions.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with supported accounts and proactively manage customer communication via the CRM system.
  • Quotation Follow‑Up: Follow up quotations and enquiries in a timely and effective manner to support order conversion.
  • Internal Collaboration: Work closely with External Sales, Customer Service, Operations, Design, Marketing and Despatch to ensure smooth handover of orders.
  • Issue Resolution: Assist with customer concerns and liaise with internal teams to drive issues through to resolution.
  • Reporting & Targets: Complete monthly reporting on quotation activity and success rates, contributing to team and company targets.
  • Compliance & Standards: Adhere to health & safety requirements, ISO standards and complete mandatory Amazon Learn training.

About You

We are looking for someone who combines strong technical capability with a commercial mindset and a collaborative approach. Below are the essential and desirable criteria, along with the attributes we value most.

Essential requirements

  • Degree or HNC in Science or Engineering (mechanical engineering bias preferred).
  • Proven experience in an internal technical sales or proposals role.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates and technical quotations.
  • Confident working in a customer‑focused environment.
  • Strong understanding of commercial drivers and customer needs.
  • Computer literate with the ability to use CRM and internal systems effectively.
  • Strong numeracy, prioritisation and scheduling skills.

Desirable qualifications and experience

  • Filtration or Process Industry Experience.
  • Pressure Vessel Knowledge such as understanding of industry codes and standards.
  • Experience working in a technical sales office environment.
