Site Engineer – 400kV Substation (Mannington)

Overview

We are looking for an experienced Site Engineer to support the delivery of a 400kV substation project. This is a site-based role where you will assist the Site Manager in overseeing construction activities, ensuring works are completed safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set out, level, and survey the site in line with construction drawings
  • Interpret and manage drawings including construction, topographical, and reinforcement details
  • Check and verify subcontractors’ work to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Act as a technical point of contact for site teams and subcontractors
  • Carry out site inspections and support quality control processes
  • Maintain site records, reports, and quality assurance documentation
  • Record and manage as-built information and assist with handover documentation
  • Manage RFIs (Requests for Information) and Technical Queries
  • Coordinate temporary works in the role of Temporary Works Coordinator (TWC)
  • Ensure all materials and installations meet project specifications
  • Support planning and ensure works are delivered to programme
  • Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance
  • Issue permits (e.g. Permits to Dig) and support safe systems of work
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, and the wider project team

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience as a Site Engineer within the T&D or substation sector
  • Experience working on National Grid projects
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings and setting out
  • Temporary Works Coordinator or Supervisor experience
  • CSCS or CCNSG Safety Passport
  • IOSH / SMSTS / SSSTS certification
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • National Grid Competent Person (NSI 6 & 8)
  • EUSR (HSG47)
  • First Aid qualification
  • Environmental certification (IOSH or equivalent)

  • Site-based role with long working hours and travel requirements
  • Ability to work in physically demanding site conditions
  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills required
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team

Contract Details

  • Duration: 12-month project (6-month rolling contract)
  • Start Date: 16/02/2025
  • Hours: 50 hours per week
  • Rate: £400 per day
