A Fire & Security Engineer is a proactive, technical and customer-focused operator and is accountable for maintaining and repairing a wide range of fire and security systems, including fire alarms, intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control. This will be achieved by maintaining the 4 Site Way values and ensuring all policies, procedures and industry standards are met. Further agreed responsibilities and reasonable requests can be assigned outside of the core duties below.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and Inspect Security Systems
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in line with current regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and company policies.
- Carry out routine servicing, testing, and inspections to ensure systems are operating correctly.
- Identify system faults, non‑compliance issues, or opportunities for improvement during scheduled inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of system condition and report any required remedial actions.
- Troubleshoot and identify faults in existing systems using diagnostic tools and technical knowledge.
- Replace or repair defective components to restore full system functionality.
- Ensure all repairs are carried out efficiently, safely, and to a high‑quality standard.
- Test systems post‑repair to confirm successful resolution of issues.
Job Management
- Manage and prioritise daily workload to meet service level agreements and deadlines.
- Respond promptly to both scheduled tasks and reactive callouts.
- Work independently or as part of a team depending on job requirements.
- Keep the operations team informed of progress and any delays.
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately complete service reports, installation certificates, and maintenance records.
- Ensure all documentation meets internal standards and industry regulations.
- Submit all required paperwork and digital records in a timely manner.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of relevant compliance and safety requirements.
Client Support & Communication
- Provide technical support and advice to clients on‑site or over the phone.
- Clearly explain the operation and functionality of systems to the end users.
- Offer guidance on ongoing system care and recommended upgrades or replacement.
- Always maintain a professional and customer‑focused attitude.
Standby & Call‑Out Duties
- Participate in the company’s emergency call‑out rota as required.
- Respond to out‑of‑hours service calls efficiently and professionally.
- Ensure critical systems are restored to operational status promptly.
- Maintain availability during standby periods in line with the agreed rota.
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience working with fire alarm systems, intruder alarms, CCTV, and access control systems.
- Strong fault‑finding and diagnostic skills across a range of security systems.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as BS5839 (Fire Detection) and PD6662 (Intruder Alarms).
- Participation in internal training and development programmes to stay current with new technologies and installation practices.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Confidence to work at heights and on access towers.
- Full UK driving licence.

Hours and Compensation
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours a week) – £31,500 per annum.
- You will be added to a call‑out rota of 1 in 3 with £70.00 per week standby allowance on top of the basic salary.
Overtime at time and a half and double time on Sundays / Bank Holidays.
