Job Description:

Family Worker – Cambridgeshire County Council Targeted Support Service provides support to children, young people and their families. Each district team consists of Family Workers, Child and Family Centre Workers, Young People’s Workers, Youth Progression Advisers, Client Researchers and Managers.

The role offers an exciting, dynamic and ever‑evolving opportunity to support families with a high‑quality, bespoke package of support. You will use a whole‑family approach, working with families on an individual basis in their homes and within the community.

Responsibilities

  • Complete Early Help Assessments (EHAs) and act as Lead Professional for the family.
  • Work in partnership with a multi‑agency team around the family to provide tailored targeted intervention that enables families to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Organise, plan and deliver evidence‑based group work programmes to support parents/carers on topics such as parenting, childhood development, domestic abuse and healthy relationships.
  • Build a positive rapport with children, young people and families.
  • Continue professional development through informal and formal training.
  • Travel locally and across the county to support families in their communities.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A good knowledge and understanding of child development, signs of abuse and neglect, and of child protection legislations, policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of the importance of school attendance and access to education.
  • Ability to conduct assessments and create plans for support that promote positive outcomes.
  • Knowledge of providing direct support to vulnerable families and evidence‑based programmes.
  • Strong communication skills using a variety of formats and ability to work efficiently within a multi‑agency environment.
  • Experience in maintaining good case recording, reports and assessments.
  • Willingness and ability to travel locally and across the county.
  • Experience of multi‑agency and partnership working to ensure the best outcomes for families.
  • Ability to write objective assessments and complete accurate triage as part of work with families.
  • Eligible to work in the UK, subject to an enhanced DBS check, hold a full and valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle or ability to travel efficiently between locations.
