As a Project Manager within Developer Services Complex Customer Projects team , you’ll lead multidisciplinary teams to deliver a varied portfolio of water and wastewater projects, ranging from £150,000 to over £5 million. Managing projects end-to-end, from initial concept through to design, construction and handover, you’ll develop solutions that meet the needs of high-profile customers, including major Thames Water growth schemes.
What you’ll be doing as a Project Manager
This role will be covering both Thames Valley, Home Counties and London . You’ll be responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering projects on time and within budget, working closely with internal teams and external experts to achieve the best outcomes. This role requires a confident leader and problem solver, with strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to clearly communicate and present to senior audiences.
- Manage a diverse and complex portfolio of projects across the London and Thames Valley region, ensuring successful delivery from start to finish.
- Define clear project scopes, plans and budgets that align with business objectives and deliver the right outcomes for customers .
- Contribute to the DMEX target by proactively managing customer expectations and preventing avoidable escalations and complaints .
- Build and manage strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, ensuring effective engagement throughout each project.
- Lead regular project reviews, tracking progress across cost, programme, risks (RAID) and status (RAG), with clear escalation where needed.
- Champion a strong Health, Safety and Environmental culture, including carrying out site audits and promoting best practice across all activities.
- Provide clear and accurate project reporting, including financial updates (actuals, accruals and forecasts), while ensuring compliance with governance and stage gate processes.
This is a Hybrid role based in Clearwater Court, Reading.
What you should bring to the role
- Experience within construction, utilities or engineering project environments, with a strong understanding of project delivery principles.
- Proven track record of successfully planning, delivering and controlling projects from start to finish.
- Confident managing budgets, including forecasting, cost control and handling project variations.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively based on business and customer needs.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills, with resilience and a proactive approach to problem-solving in complex environments.
- Effective stakeholder management and influencing skills, with strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage risk and escalating where needed.
