Senior Project Manager – Strategic Portfolio Management (London | Permanent)

Hybrid working 2/3 days a week on site

**Must have 5+ years of London Market Insurance experience**

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to lead and deliver high-impact business and technology transformation initiatives within a complex, fast-paced financial services environment. This is a key role supporting the organisation’s strategic business and IT agenda, working across multiple functions including underwriting, operations, claims, IT, and finance.

You will partner with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams to drive end-to-end delivery of large-scale transformation programmes. The role requires a strong background in managing complex projects, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and the ability to operate confidently in both Agile and Waterfall environments.

This is a highly visible role where you will shape outcomes, influence decision-making, and ensure successful delivery of strategic initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver multiple complex transformation projects across business and technology domains
  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans covering scope, timelines, milestones, resources, and budgets
  • Manage senior stakeholder relationships, ensuring clear communication and alignment on objectives
  • Track project performance, KPIs, and ensure delivery against agreed outcomes
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks, issues, and dependencies
  • Facilitate governance, status reporting, and steering committee updates
  • Ensure adherence to project management standards, methodologies, and best practices
  • Drive high-quality deliverables aligned with business expectations
  • Lead change management planning and execution across initiatives
  • Conduct post-implementation reviews and drive continuous improvement
  • Support and mentor other project managers, contributing to best practice development

Skills & Experience

Technical / Project Delivery

  • Strong proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Clarity or similar)
  • Extensive experience across Agile, Waterfall, Scrum, PRINCE2, and/or PMI frameworks
  • Strong financial management skills including budgeting and resource planning
  • Solid understanding of risk and issue management in complex environments
  • Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale transformation programmes

Leadership & Soft Skills

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without direct line management
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills at senior level
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability
  • Highly organised with strong attention to detail and prioritisation skills
  • Comfortable working in ambiguous and changing environments
  • Able to work independently and make sound recommendations

Experience

  • 5+ years delivering complex projects or transformation programmes
  • Proven experience working across both Agile and Waterfall environments
