About the role

The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads the planning, development, and optimisation of manufacturing processes to ensure efficient, high-quality, and cost-effective production. This role serves as the key interface between Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering, translating the MFE design intent into practical manufacturing solutions. The manager is responsible for developing assembly documentation, defining process flow, managing tooling and quality systems, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across production operations. The successful candidate will be based at our Doncaster facility and will be working to ensure the successful commercialisation and Design for Manufacture implementation of our Membrane Free Electrolyser™

Process & Documentation Ownership

  • Develop and maintain detailed assembly documentation, including work instructions, checklists, and installation drawings.
  • Ensure documentation accurately reflects design intent provided by Mechanical, Electrical, and Process Engineering while remaining under Manufacturing control.

Manufacturing Flow Definition

  • Define subassembly build stages, sequence of operations, and factory layout.
  • Own process flow development and drive optimisation for efficiency and safety.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to validate technical feasibility of process changes.
  • Manage Engineering Control Requests for Engineering design changes.

Quality & Compliance

  • Manage in-process and end-of-line quality control, containment, and rework processes.
  • Partner with Engineering and Quality on non-conformances or specification issues.

  • Work with supply chain and planning teams to manage inventory, production scheduling, and material availability, as well as sourcing components efficiently and managing vendor technical issues during manufacturing.
  • Drive lean manufacturing, process standardisation, and productivity initiatives.
  • Track manufacturing KPIs (yield, rework, cycle time) and implement improvement actions.
  • Support cross‑functional cost reduction and design‑for‑manufacture (DFM) efforts.

You will maintain close collaboration with Engineering and Production to ensure manufacturability of the system whilst maintaining the design integrity and being able to conduct collaborative design reviews. You will act as the manufacturing voice, ensuring the product is designed for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability.

You will be responsible for design optimisation for assembly, cost and reliability which will be fed back to Engineering to incorporate value engineering and Design for Manufacture improvements.

Key skills and experience required

  • A degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience in developing assembly process design, tooling development and production line set up.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and how these can be translated into manufacturing practices.
  • Understanding of root cause analysis (RCA), FMEA, and continuous improvement methodologies (lean, six sigma etc.).
