Senior Category Manager – Construction

£60,000 + car allowance + package | remote (with travel)

We’re supporting an organisation that is undergoing a significant procurement transformation, with a clear focus on building a more strategic, commercially driven, and high-performing category management function.

This is a leadership role within the construction procurement team, offering the opportunity to guide strategy, influence senior stakeholders, and help shape how construction procurement is delivered going forward — moving away from transactional activity and towards best-in-class, category-led strategic sourcing.

You’ll be joining a team that is actively evolving its operating model, improving governance, strengthening supplier strategy, and embedding more structured, value-led procurement across complex construction and infrastructure programmes.

What makes this role exciting

  • Take on a leadership role within a transforming procurement function
  • Be part of a live procurement transformation journey with senior visibility
  • Help shape and embed best-practice category management approaches
  • Influence how major construction programmes are procured and delivered
  • Move beyond BAU into a more strategic, value-driven procurement environment
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders driving change across the organisation

Key responsibilities

  • Lead procurement activity across construction and related categories
  • Develop and implement forward-looking category strategies aligned to transformation objectives
  • Manage contracts (including NEC and JCT) ensuring robust governance and compliance
  • Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on procurement strategy and commercial decisions
  • Drive cost optimisation, supplier performance, and supply chain improvements
  • Support the evolution of procurement processes, tools, and ways of working
  • Oversee a portfolio of high-value construction programmes
  • Provide guidance and informal leadership across the wider procurement team

Experience required

  • Background in procurement, ideally within construction or infrastructure
  • Experience working with NEC and/or JCT contracts
  • Strong stakeholder management across complex environments
  • Commercial mindset with a focus on value delivery and improvement
  • Experience operating in or contributing to a leadership / senior influencing capacity

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of regulated procurement environments (e.g. PCR 2015)

Additional information

  • Remote with travel in the role
  • Car allowance included
  • Some additional travel may be required depending on projects

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to step into a leadership position within a procurement transformation journey, where you can influence strategy, elevate category maturity, and make a tangible impact on how major construction spend is managed.
