Senior Category Manager – Construction
£60,000 + car allowance + package | remote (with travel)
We’re supporting an organisation that is undergoing a significant procurement transformation, with a clear focus on building a more strategic, commercially driven, and high-performing category management function.
This is a leadership role within the construction procurement team, offering the opportunity to guide strategy, influence senior stakeholders, and help shape how construction procurement is delivered going forward — moving away from transactional activity and towards best-in-class, category-led strategic sourcing.
You’ll be joining a team that is actively evolving its operating model, improving governance, strengthening supplier strategy, and embedding more structured, value-led procurement across complex construction and infrastructure programmes.

Key responsibilities
- Lead procurement activity across construction and related categories
- Develop and implement forward-looking category strategies aligned to transformation objectives
- Manage contracts (including NEC and JCT) ensuring robust governance and compliance
- Act as a trusted advisor to stakeholders on procurement strategy and commercial decisions
- Drive cost optimisation, supplier performance, and supply chain improvements
- Support the evolution of procurement processes, tools, and ways of working
- Oversee a portfolio of high-value construction programmes
- Provide guidance and informal leadership across the wider procurement team
Experience required
- Background in procurement, ideally within construction or infrastructure
- Experience working with NEC and/or JCT contracts
- Strong stakeholder management across complex environments
- Commercial mindset with a focus on value delivery and improvement
- Experience operating in or contributing to a leadership / senior influencing capacity
Nice to have
- Knowledge of regulated procurement environments (e.g. PCR 2015)
